If I had the money and had to choose between a fully loaded 340i and a fully loaded M3, I think I’d take the 340i. It’s stupid quick and probably a better road car than an M3, which I would likely never take to a track. Anyone else feel the same?

I’d have to drive both spec’d out exactly how I’d want them.

Fair enough.

I’m probably too big (not fat, just a massive 6'10" dude) for the sport seats in the M3, so the 340i sounds nice and comfy.

you’d be right...M3 is a waste of money unless you can track it or keep it in the garage for 30 years. You can’t even drive the 340 to it’s limits on the street. Hell, I have trouble keeping my wife’s 328 anywhere close to the speed limit. I’ll take the comfort if it’s a DD.

Given the choice between a M3 and a loaded 340i, I’d take a C63 AMG.

Acceptable compromise.

yep... but you can’t get a 340 in Laguna Seca Blau...

I bet if you offered an extra few grand, they’d do it.

Shit man, I forgot how tall you were. I remember something where you were talking about how rough it was to buy a car.

Here’s a twist

If I needed a fast sedan, I’d get an M6 GC. I know that’s basically 3x the price of a 340, but I’d find a way.

It’s a bit of a pain, but I’ve made the best of it! My Outback is certainly no WRX, but I’ve still managed to have plenty of fun with it!

yummy - the little trunk lip spoiler is so BMW-esque too

I have a friend who’s 6' 10" and he’s been rocking an Element for years. Not the sportiest ride but it fits him.

Makes sense to me.

Isn’t the new m3 pretty soft? Everything I hear is that it’s not as hard core as it used to be.

A good friend of mine has an Element, and I’ve driven it a few times. Headroom is better than anything I’ve experienced, legroom on the other hand was a little small for me.

I am pretty much certain BMW Individual will paint the car any color you can dream, probably not calling it Laguna Seca Blue, but down to the metallic flake (if it has any, IDK TBH)

I have no experience with the current generation M3/M4, but in previous generations the M3 has been very well mannered on the road.
Personally I would have the M, but I can totally see why you’d get the regular car, they have similar HP and if you don’t track it and/or live in a place that has no corners anywhere you won’t really miss the rest of the (amazing) performance parts.

I dunno, I read Car & Driver’s long term test of the new M3 and it just seemed more unpleasant than it needed to be. I don’t need a race car, a quick luxury cruiser would do.

Honestly the regular 3, the current one, is so confortable I might actually be tempted by it.
I remember the old M3 weren’t bad, but the old regular 3 was actually a bit firm so the difference was unnoticeable, the new 3 being so comfy I am willing to bet there is a pretty big difference between it and the M car.
Also, the 5 series is a thing you know and it demolishes roads like nothing else.

sure. and you could put a tune + exhaust on it if you wanted to go faster and sound better than an M3

BMW already offers a performance pack that ups horsepower to 355 from 320 and torque to 360 ft-lbs instead of 330.

it’s so cool that manufacturers can just add power packages via a tune now, one of the few upsides of downsizing
![]() 10/27/2016 at 10:38 |

It’s that plus a new exhaust. Honestly, if I had $75k and wasn’t told that I needed something more practical than a sedan, I’d get one of these.

For a daily? practicality and comfort all the way.

I’m the same way with a new S600 vs S65. If I need the extra power I’ll just get a tune. If I’m buying an S class I want it to be comfortable and discreet, not hard and loud.

I DO!
Same goes for the 550i/M5. Although I’d take an M6GC over a 650iGC.
